I failed. It didn’t take long. The firm resolution I took yesterday morning was pretty much gone by the afternoon. I watched a movie. The whole thing. It wasn’t an old French movie either. Should I consider that progress? No. I think I am more in the category of people who collect the “before” picture but never get to the “after”. You know the kind, they are the one that take a photo of themselves prior to do the diet or the exercise routine they decided to try. But there is no “after” picture, they stay in the shape they were. Well, those people are not as dumb as me. They don’t trumpet to the world on the first day that they’re about to change drastically.
Why couldn’t I hold my resolution, not even for 24 hours? Because I got bored. I had a list prepared in the morning. I had told you about it. There were quite a bit of items on it. I did almost all of them. After that, my schedule was wide open. The weather was dreadful, almost dangerous. A big storm, pouring rain, high wind. I couldn’t go outside and bike. Running some errands was out of the question. Now that I think about it, there was another factor why I failed. My book. I am currently reading the legends of King Arthur and his knights of the round table. It’s very well written and interesting enough, but I couldn’t see myself glued to it for 2 hours in the dead hours of the afternoon.
So, you see, I completely missed the mark. At least, I am honest with you. So, what does it mean? Am I done trying? Is it the end of this project? No! It means that the next time I try to stop the screen, I will keep a journal of my days for quite awhile, AND THEN I will write about it. This way, I will have my “before” and “after” picture ready.
Meanwhile, today is the day! I am on a new path: no more screen, I swear it! Look, it’s not even 6 am and I am doing only “useful” screen time. I don’t know how long this resolution will hold but I know my mornings are always hopeful. I am an optimistic kind of guy.
